There’s a strong case to be made for Taylor Swift being just about the most famous person in the world right now. Seriously, thanks to her barnstorming Eras tour, as well as her high-profile relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce – not to mention the ever-expanding catalog of musical hits she boasts – there can’t be many people on Earth who wouldn’t recognize her. While I wouldn’t know (I’m not über famous) my suspicions are that it’s a bit of a poisoned chalice, the old fame thing.
On the one hand it must be great to be adored by millions, to have untold riches, and know that whenever you step foot outside of your home, people are going to want to meet you. On the other hand, there are a whole lot of downsides that come with being so recognizable and popular. Take, for example, the fact that no matter what you do, no matter where you go, no matter how you’re feeling or what you’re wearing, you’re going to be scrutinized. This is to be expected when you reach the upper echelons of fame, of course, and for the most part we would assume that a veritable superstar like Taylor Swift will be all too used it by now. But that’s not to say there aren’t aspects of the coverage she gets – and the subsequent fan reaction – that leave a sour taste in one’s mouth. They do in mine, in any case, particularly when they relate to the singer’s figure or speculate over the idea that she’s with child.
